COMS 226 Digital imaging final part #2
Throughout the course of the semester, I got to learn and apply the skills needed for the class and life by exploring the endless possibilities of photoshop. One of the simpler assignments we did in class this semester was creating logos on photo shop. Doing this does take a lot of steps but knowing what each tool on the tool bar means makes it easier. First you select the horizontal tool to start typing on your black square. Once you have selected what font you want to use you can click on the drag tool and but the words where you want them. after that you select the custom shape tool. The custom shape tool provides different shape options for you to draw, you can access these shapes in the drop-down menu. Once you have dragged your shape on the logo, you can use the crop tool to crop your logo down to size. Then to get rid of the back to get the logo transparent, you unlock layer zero and then hit delete to complete the final logo. Then, you click on file save as, and save it as a PNG or GIF to preserve the transparent background.
Another assignment that I really enjoyed working on in this class was assignment number four which is “paint, edit and heal”. I liked this assignment so much because it involves using a large variety of tools. To fix a red eye you use the eye tool, which removes the red from people’s eyes and animals’ eyes, it can even correct closed eyes.
To fix a dented in car you can use the patch tool, click the red eye tool then select the patch option. Then you click and drag on the surface of the car that needs to be replaced by a smoother looking surface. You can save this fixed dented car as a JPEG.
We also learned how to fix a dented-up car using a different tool called the clone stamp tool. Fist go to the stamp tool option bar, select the cone shape from the menu, then you have to deselect the “aligned” box in order to move the smooth area over to the area that needs it. Then you have to adjust the opacity and brush size of the area you want covered up. To select the area, you want you hit the “alt” button on the key board and drag it where you want it to go.
To restore an old picture with lots of imperfections on it, you use the dust and scratches tool. To find this tool you select the Marquee tool option, then select the rectangle marquee tool from the drop-down bar. To use this tool, you can click on the parameter over the damages of the photo. Then you go to the filter drop-down menu and select “noise” then under noise, select the “duct and scratches” option. then you can adjust the radius and threshold settings to clean up the area selected. To move the selection section, you fit Control + F until you have fixed all the dust and scratches in the picture.
